Dr. Gina Gatmaytan is a physical therapist, founder, and co-owner at Empower Manual Therapy in Shoreline, WA. She completed an undergraduate degree in exercise science in 2010 and became a Certified Exercise Physiologist (formerly Health Fitness Specialist) through the American College of Sports Medicine. She worked as a personal trainer, group fitness instructor, and clinical aide to Brad Jordan for several years before graduating from the University of Washington Doctor of Physical Therapy program in 2017. She immediately went through Residency and Fellowship training with the Ola Grimsby Institute, finishing the program in January 2020. She finished the ABPTS Board Certification in Orthopedic Physical Therapy in 2022.
Dr. Gatmaytan went on to become a clinical mentor for the OGI Residency and Fellowship programs, providing over 200 mentorship hours in 2020. She has since begun working with the University of Washington orthopedic residency program as well. Within the OGI, she presents an annual lecture on upper extremity neural entrapments within the Residency Program. She has also worked with the American Academy of Podiatric Sports Medicine, developing accredited online continuing education on taping, and speaking at their conference on the role of core stability in lower extremity overuse injuries.
Dr. Gatmaytan is passionate about providing exercise support to athletes in unique sports. She provided sideline coverage for Rat City Roller Derby for 2 years, including for their season championship bouts at Climate Pledge Arena in Seattle. She currently supports Seattle Tricking Collective, which is a group of performance martial arts athletes. She also works with fire performers and aerialists on their unique mobility and stability needs.
